The Old Jail - St. Augustine, FL
I have only been to this place once, a long time ago when I was just a young mother and was visiting relatives. Once was plenty enough for me. There are dark entities along with wicked spirits that haunt this place.
We already knew by this time that I had the ability to “see” spirits and know things as if I tuned a radio dial and could pick facts up through airwaves. It was not unusual for me to pick up on energies left by people who had lived and died … and we knew that the more intense these people lives had been the more easily I could “sense” them.

I had experienced mostly good contact, even if it is still somewhat “scary” to see spirits or have them talk to me or show me images so that I can understand them better. Why people want to have this ability I don’t understand. It really can be quite unnerving let me tell you. I say that because sometimes unfriendly, dark entities come to you and they will shake you to the core. I had one of these experiences here in the Old Jail at St Augustine in Florida.
When we pulled up outside I was pleased to see that it resembled more an old hotel than a jailhouse. My family loves to visit old buildings and learn about the history of an authentic place. I entered with a feeling of excitement in seeing this new site … well new to me, old to the area. It didn’t take long however for me to start feeling the heaviness and sadness practically ooze out of the walls. The setting had a sort of “campy” tourist attraction look to it but that was not what was influencing this terrible dread I was feeling. As we worked our way further inside I began to see what I refer to as shadow people … they never give you the sense that they have ever lived on this earth its like they have never had a soul. They crouch in the shadows and scramble along in the dark corners reminding me somewhat of large black rats except that they are about 2 to 3 feet tall, black as night and they scurry and hover. They carry with them such a depressing, wicked feel. I also saw the somewhat larger and more frightening “dark entities”. I will not lie … those things scare the heck out of me and often leave me shaking and upset for hours. If they are not “evil spirits” that got kicked out of Heaven with Lucifer then I have no idea what hell they did come from.
Something happened in the dead center of
the place that is the sign when it is time for me to vacate the premises and that is when one of them touches me. We were being shown the cells and out one of the windows into the courtyard, you could see the gallows where many of these mostly wicked criminals had been hung. I heard a scraping sound to my right and slightly behind me and I felt something brush my shoulder. I started whispering my prayer of protection (which has always helped me unless I have deliberately put myself in harm’s way) … the stroking stopped but then this horrible stench of human waste hit me with such strength I actually gagged. I heard the distinct sound of the most hateful laugh up close to my ear. I knew that a dark entity was toying with me. While others I have heard of with my sixth sense have stayed and engaged these things that is not what I am prompted by the Holy Spirit to do. He warns me to flee and this lady flees! I have only taken on one of this evil spirits once and that was because it was going to attack my son and that wasn’t going to be allowed by me. I was attacked and harmed in 3 different ways in that experience and I will tell you that story another time.

But if anyone tries to tell you that spirits will not hurt you … don’t you believe them. Most haunting are just misguided spirits and they have no plans to harm you. However the dark entities thrive on your fear and if they don’t get it they will hurt you. Never ever stay where your inner spirit is telling you it is sensing evil. We are all capable of getting warnings from within and if you yourself have a clean conscious and spirit you will be protected and warned when you are in the presence of evil. Listen to that voice of reason and get out of there. Most evil spirits for reasons that I am not clear on, are fixed to a particular area and have to stay there, so once you are away from that area you should be fine.
Over the years I have talked with people who have visited the Old Jail and they say that they have actors now playing out parts of condemned prisoners or guards and that they have rebuilt the gallows and have a “birdcage cell” and it is still a campy tourist spot. If you are “sensitive” to the spirits and you go there just be sure you are prepared for something less like a carnival scare of silly people dressed up like killers and more like the reality of the actual place of trapped wicked souls of real murderers that died there. Don’t say you haven’t been warned.
